First he takes<br \/>\nNot the <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #ee4000; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Of or pertaining to angels (OED).\" href=\" \">Angelick<\/a> nature, but he makes<br \/>\nOur flesh his <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #ee4000; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"A protective garment or blanket (OED).\" href=\" \">mantle<\/a>, where he doth infold<br \/>\nThat light which <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #ee4000; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"A certain class of angels (OED).\" href=\" \">seraphims<\/a> cannot behold<br \/>\nWithout <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #ee4000; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"The condition of being mentally paralyzed, mental stupefaction, frenzy (OED).\" href=\" \">amazement<\/a>: and this he assumes<br \/>\nNot from some princess decked with plumes<br \/>\nOf honor and wealth, but from a low<br \/>\nAnd poor though noble Virgin; and if now<br \/>\nWe think his birth in some great court to find,<br \/>\nWe are deceived, poor Bethlem is design&#8217;d<br \/>\nFor his first breath; and in that town an Inn: <sup><a href=\"#footnote2\">2<\/a> <\/sup><a id=\"note2\"><\/a>,<br \/>\nAnd in that Inn a stable; there begins<br \/>\nThis blest <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #ee4000; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"A manifestation or appearance of some divine or superhuman being (OED).\" href=\" \">Epiphany<\/a> the world affords<br \/>\nNo better room to entertain her Lord.<br \/>\nAnd now, if only on this History<br \/>\nWe gaze; we look to short, the Mystery<br \/>\nIs fruitful. Christ began to speak<br \/>\nAnd be at once, and ere he spoke to preach<br \/>\nIt doth command thy faith, when thou dost see<br \/>\nEffects of greatest weight produc&#8217;d to be<br \/>\nFrom things without all human grandeur, then<br \/>\nThou must subscribe, this power is not for men,<br \/>\nBut God. Great consequence do then speak best<br \/>\nAlmighty God, when man they do speak least<br \/>\nAgain, it gives thee a true estimate<br \/>\nOf worldly <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #ee4000; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"A splendid display or celebration; magnificent show or ceremony (OED).\" href=\" \">pomp<\/a>, bids thee not over-rate<br \/>\nThat pageantry; the Lord who can best try<br \/>\nAnd value what is best, did pass it by.<br \/>\nAgain thy savior&#8217;s infant pattren tells<br \/>\nWhat his disciple&#8217;s duty is how well<br \/>\nHumility become thee, when he<br \/>\nThe prince of life and glory, chose to be<br \/>\nThus humble when he put on flesh it chides<br \/>\nAnd checks, and shames poor foolish mortals.<br \/>\nLastly this miracle of love should fire<br \/>\nThy heart with love again, and with desires<br \/>\nOf suitable <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #ee4000; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Senses involving response or exchange (OED).\" href=\" \">returns<\/a>; and yet if still<br \/>\nIt do exceed thy power, as sure it will<br \/>\nYet such a Heart becomes a sacrifice<br \/>\nAccepted and thy other wants supplies.<\/p>\n<p>Footnotes<br \/>\n<sup><a id=\"footnote1\"><\/a>1<\/sup> This is an interesting pun. It seems to not only be addressing the splendor of the sun, but also the &#8220;son&#8221;.
