color: #ee4000; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Atonement or being purified from guilt (OED)\" href=\" \">expiation<\/a>; yet when sent they were,<br \/>\nThe tidings of that peace and joy to bear<sup><a href=\"#footnote1\">1<\/a> <\/sup><a id=\"note1\"><\/a><br \/>\nWhich this day dawn&#8217;d to man, they fill the skies<br \/>\nWith acclamations: Glory to God on high<sup><a href=\"#footnote2\">2<\/a> <\/sup><a id=\"note2\"><\/a>,<br \/>\nPeace on the earth, good will to man<sup><a href=\"#footnote3\">3<\/a> <\/sup><a id=\"note3\"><\/a>: thus they<br \/>\nRejoyce to see the spring of others joy<br \/>\nAnd shall the Angels when the news they bring<br \/>\nOf bliss to man an Heavenly Anthem sing,<br \/>\nAnd man be silent; man, for whose only sake<br \/>\nOur blessed Lord did Humane nature take<sup><a href=\"#footnote4\">4<\/a> <\/sup><a id=\"note4\"><\/a><br \/>\nAnd stoopt <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #ee4000; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Below; this was an error in Newell's transcription\" href=\" \">blow<\/a> the Angels, to instal<br \/>\nAnd place man in a state Angelical<sup><a href=\"#footnote5\">5<\/a> <\/sup><a id=\"note5\"><\/a><br \/>\nDear Lord, our hearts are narrow, let thy love<br \/>\nFill and <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #ee4000; text-decoration: none;\" title=\"Enlarge\" href=\" \">inlarge<\/a> their compass and improve<br \/>\nTheir dew returns<sup><a href=\"#footnote6\">6<\/a> <\/sup><a id=\"note6\"><\/a>, and as thy loves extent<br \/>\nDid cause that <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;
